چکیده

As stated in ((25]) and ((12]) the eld of multiagent systems (MAS) (or distributed artiicial intelligence (DAI)) needs ideas from sociology in order to overcome some of the problems researchers are encountering. These problems are most of the time related to the limited (self)reeexivity the actors (agents) are equiped with and the limitations of the architecture of the individual agents. On the other hand, as stated in 12] and 3], simulation studies based on MAS can be used to test sociological theories in a way not possible in social reality. At the same time, the design of MAS should be based on cognitive and sociological theories about the architecture of individual agents as well as the relation between individual behavior and eeects on the level of the society that is formed by these individual agents. In 25] a hierachy of agent models based on both cognitive and sociological theories is introduced. In this article this framework will be further developed.

Graph-based Evaluation of Organization in Multagent Systems

This paper deals with the evaluation of multiagent systems. The related works in this issue are most often interested in evaluation of agent design methodologies or agent tools and platforms but do not address sufficiently evaluation of multiagent applications from a general point of view, the used evaluation criteria remain either specific to a special topic or application dependent. In this w...

Social Reputation: a Mechanism for Flexible Self-Regulation of Multiagent Systems

In this paper, we use multiagent technology for social simulation of sociological micro-macro issues in the domain of electronic marketplaces. We argue that allowing self-interested agents to enable social reputation as a mechanism for flexible self-regulation during runtime can improve the robustness and 'social order' of multiagent systems to cope with various perturbations that arise when si...

Simulation and evaluation of urban bus-networks using a multiagent approach

Evolution of public road transportation systems requires analysis and planning tools to improve service quality. A wide range of road transportation simulation tools exist with a variety of applications in planning, training and demonstration. However, few simulation models take into account traveler behaviors and vehicle operation specific to public transportation. We present in this paper a b...

The Current State of Normative Agent-Based Systems

Recent years have seen an increase in the application of ideas from the social sciences to computational systems. Nowhere has this been more pronounced than in the domain of multiagent systems. Because multiagent systems are composed of multiple individual agents interacting with each other many parallels can be drawn to human and animal societies. One of the main challenges currently faced in ...

Multiagent Work Practice Simulation: Progress and Challenges

Modeling and simulating complex human-system interactions requires going beyond formal procedures and information flows to analyze how people interact with each other. Such work practices include conversations, modes of communication, informal assistance, impromptu meetings, workarounds, and so on. To make these social processes visible, we have developed a multiagent simulation tool, called Br...
